Johann Thamm (1719–1787) / Anton Weigang? (1751–1829). Opella de Passione Domini

Opella de Passione Domini is a uniquely preserved series of twelve musical compositions performed during the passion meditation of the Jesuit sodality of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wrocław. Verbal texts for these meditations were written by the prefect of the sodalition, Johannes Thamm (1719–1787), who also performed this function after the dissolution of the Society of Jesus in Silesia (1776). The author of music for subsequent recitatives and arias was probably Thamm’s student, Anton Weigang (1751–1829)  – one of the best composers active at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in Silesia and the Kłodzko County. This edition is a reconstruction of the verbal and musical structure of the entire composition preserved in two manuscript copies originating from the collections of the monastery of Regular Canons in Wrocław and currently kept in the University Library in Warsaw.
