Ewa Hauptman-Fischer

uni_femaleEwa Hauptman-Fischer is Deputy Head of the Music Department of the University of Warsaw Library.  She catalogues music sources for the International Inventory of Musical Sources (RISM) and conducts research on Silesian music manuscripts and early music prints from the 17th to the 19th century. She studied musicology at the University of Warsaw and graduated in 2003 with master’s thesis entitled ‘Eighteenth-century music of the Cistercian abbey in Pelplin. The catalogue and a review of the collection’ (supervisor Prof. Alina Żórawska-Witkowska, the thesis was honoured in the Zofia Lissa Competition). In 2023, she defended with honours her doctoral dissertation ‘Vocal-instrumental music in the Cistercian monasteries of the Silesian Province (1651–1810)’, written under the supervision of Prof. Tomasz Jeż. She also completed postgraduate studies in Scientific Information. Ewa Hauptman-Fischer is an active member of the Polish Librarians’ Association and The International Association of Music Libraries. Her main field of interest focuses on studies in sources, particularly monastic collections. She is the author over a dozen articles and participant of Polish and international conferences. She also performs early music; since 1995 she has been associated with the following ensembles: Ars Antiqua, Orthodox Church Music Ensemble and chamber choir of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, chamber choir of the Polish Royal Opera.
