Melchior Fabricius (1575–1653). Magnificat Primi Toni a 8

Melchior Fabricius was a Jesuit active in Kalisz, Cracow, Poznań, Jarosław, Lublin, Lwów, and other minor cities of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In many of them existed boarding schools for musicians led by the Society of Jesus. The only surviving music composition by Melchior Fabricius known to us today is his Magnificat primi toni a 8 from the fifth volume of the Pelplin Tablature. The composition style demonstrates its author’s rather good competence in the field of music composition. The musical setting is conventional both with regard to the performance forces applied, types of texture, and the voice leading.
