Musicalia Joanni Chrysostomi Zalaski

The catalogue of Joannes Chrysostomus Zalaski’s music collection published by Katarzyna Spurgjasz contains descriptions of over one hundred works preserved in nearly twenty manuscripts, collected by the church cantor in the second half of the 17th century. His collection—likely originally containing many more sources—was assembled in all three of Zalaski’s workplaces: Prusice (Prausnitz), Namysłów (Namslau), and Brzeg (Brieg); despite its fragmented state of preservation, it remains a valuable source of the musical culture of Silesia during the religious transformations following the Thirty Years’ War. The catalogue records contain detailed descriptions of the manuscripts and the works they contain, including concordances, textual sources, and musical incipits in score form.
