Carolus Göbel (1721–1764). 3 Alma Redemptoris Mater, 4 Salve Regina

Carolus Göbel (1721–1764) studied at the Jesuit gymnasium and convictus of St Joseph in Wrocław, where he also joined the Jesuit order. For many years he held the position of praefectus chori at the convictus in Głogów, Kłodzko, Opava, Żagań and Otyń. In the recently discovered collection of music manuscripts from this last one centre one can find some pieces by Göbel – settings of very popular in Jesuit circles Marian antiphons (three Alma Redemptoris Mater and four Salve Regina), which constitute all of his surviving output known to us today. The composer applied the then popular form of church aria which combines late Baroque elements with characteristics of the broadly conceived galant style.
